Air New Zealand provides you with various check-in options:

Air New Zealand Check-In Time

You can find the check-in time for your Air New Zealand flight on your e-ticket or mobile app. If you booked through a travel agent, they will also give you this information. 

  • If you’re traveling internationally, you need to check in at least 90 minutes before your flight leaves. But if you’re flying to, from, or through the United States, you need to check in at least 2 hours before your flight leaves because of security reasons. 
  • If you have checked baggage, make sure to check in at least 30 minutes before your domestic flight departure. If you’re not bringing any checked baggage with you, just go straight to the gate. Scan the barcode on your e-ticket or mobile app to check-in. You should be at the boarding gate at least 20 minutes before departure. 
  • If you’re taking a domestic flight from an international terminal in New Zealand or connecting to an international flight, make sure to check in at least 60 minutes before your departure time. 

Online Check-in Time

The check-in time for Air New Zealand online is:

  • You need to arrive at the airport 30 minutes before your domestic flight departs.
  • You need to arrive at the airport 90 or 120 minutes before your international flight departs, depending on the airport you’re departing from.

Mobile Check-in Time

The mobile app check-in time for Air New Zealand is the same as the online check-in time, i.e. :

  • 24 hours to 30 minutes prior to the departure of a domestic flight.
  • 24 hours to 90 or 120 minutes prior to the departure of an international flight, depending on the airport of departure.

Kiosk Check-in Time

At certain airports, you can use an airport kiosk to check-in.

Air New Zealand’s airport kiosk check-in time is 3–4 hours before departure until your check-in deadline, which is usually 30 minutes for domestic flights and 90 minutes for international flights (120 minutes for US flights).

You must do everything you need to do to check in at the airport counter, including:

  • 30 minutes before an international flight leaves.
  • 90 minutes before the departure of a foreign flight, but 120 minutes before a trip to, from, or through the United States.

Air New Zealand Online Check-in

Follow these steps to check in online for your Air New Zealand flight:

  • Sign in at AirNewZealand.com.
  • Click the “Check-in” button.
  • Click the button that says “Continue”
  • Choose the people who will be checking in. 
  • Enter the Frequent Flyer number (or numbers, if you have more than one).
  • You can choose to upgrade your flight. 
  • Add extra bags (optional).
  • Choose a seat or seats. 
  • If you chose to, pay for any changes.
  • Enter the passport information and conditions for entry and travel, if needed.
  • Finish the check-in process.

After you check-in, your boarding pass will be sent to you by email. Must be known that Unaccompanied Minors can not for online check-in. They only do offline check-in

Air New Zealand Mobile Check-in

With Air New Zealand’s app, you can check in from 24 hours to: 

  • Domestic planes leave 30 minutes before they do.
  • International planes leave 90 minutes before, but flights to, from, or through the United States leave 120 minutes before.

Air New Zealand Kiosk Check-in 

You can use a self-service airport kiosk to check in if you have all the necessary documentation, including that of the passengers traveling on your booking. These kiosks are available at the following airports:

  • International Airports. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Gold Coast, Queenstown, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Fiji Nadi, London Heathrow, and Tokyo Narita.
  • Domestic Airports. Auckland, Queensland, Christchurch, and Wellington.

When you use a self-service kiosk to check in, you will be requested to: 

  • Make sure that you and all the passengers on your booking have followed all the health and travel rules. 
  • Please use your machine-readable passport to scan. 
  • After completing your New Zealand Traveller Declaration, scan the QR code you received if you’re traveling to or transiting via New Zealand.
  • Please verify your seats. 
  • Please make sure to print your boarding pass or passes and bag tags. 

To get ready for your flight, print your boarding pass and bag tags. Then, attach the bag tags to your bags. Next, take your bags to the bag drop counter. After that, go through security. Finally, head to your boarding gate. 

Self-Service Kiosk Restrictions

When you’re on a codeshare flight (which means it’s operated by another airline), you need to check in at the counter of the airline that’s actually operating the flight. 

Air New Zealand Airport Check-in 

Checking in at the airport requires that you arrive early so that you can complete the process. 

  • At least 30 minutes prior to domestic flight departures within New Zealand. 
  • At least 90 minutes prior to an international flight’s departure, but 120 minutes for flights to/from/via the United States. 

Documents Req. for Board Your Flight

  • Govt Issued Id-Card
    • A valid form of identification for domestic flights includes a credit card, driver’s license, passport, birth certificate, Airpoints/Koru card, or Community Services Card.
    • When boarding an international flight, a valid passport and visa(s) are acceptable forms of identification.
  • Your printed or electronic ticket.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months (for international travel). 
  • Your visas (required for international travel).
  • Your travel health and/or declaration (for international flights).
  • Your test and vaccination documents.

Ensure that you meet all travel requirements of the country you are visiting or passing through prior to checking in.
